About the Israeli Society of Anesthesiologits

There are approximately 750 anesthesiologists physicians in Israel, specialists and residents, responsible for administering anesthesia to relieve pain and for managing vital life functions, including breathing, heart rhythm and blood pressure, during surgery. The anesthesiologist is also involved in postoperative pain management, chronic pain management, and providing pain relief during childbirth.
In critical care and trauma medicine, the anesthesiologist assists in supporting respiratory and cardiovascular functions, controlling infection, providing airway management, cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation, advanced life support, and pain control.

There are four sections operating within Israel Society of Anesthesiology: Obstetric Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, Cardiac Anesthesia and Pain management. The sections' members meet regularly and submit their recommendations regarding the resident practice program and clinical guidelines pertaining their area of specialty. Recently, the Scientific Council has approved a training program in obstetric anesthesia. In order to improve communication with the Anesthesiologists community, the Society has established a forum of Anesthesia department managers which meets 4 times a year and during which is informed of the society's latest issues and activities. Among the Society's last activities: a clinical guidelines of anesthesia which was approved by the Society's board members and by the anesthesia department managers forum.
